I love creating unique designs, using material from my own hand drawings, paintings, photos and print making. Using digital design software, I then manipulate my hand work and turn this into contemporary art work. Most of my inspiration starts with using contrasting themes, such as Victorian decor and tropical birds, as seen in my Goldfinch scarf. I pick two words as my starting point, and then base my inspiration around this.
My design style celebrates artistry, craft, history, nature and culture, transformed into contemporary patterns. Creating something surprising, interesting and often contradictory keeps me motivated.
Printing Pretty was established in 2012 by Ruth Egginton.
My journey into textile design started back in 2003, where I studied at Walsall College, completing a foundation degree in Art and Design, it was here I realised my fascination with surfaces and textiles. 2005 - 2008 I studied Textile Design BA Hons at Winchester School of Art.
Over the past 10 years, I have exhibited at Art Galleries, traded at craft fairs, high street shops and online. The last couple of years I have exhibited at Premiere Vision, Paris. Currently I live in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland with my fiance and rescue cat Bonnie.
My first collection of silk scarves was launched in 2016. It has always been my ambition to create luxury, high quality, British textiles in a contemporary style. Only recently has it become a reality due to the rise of the British textile industry and micro manufacturing.
The silk is Printed @BeFab Printing in Edinburgh, and the stitching is finished @Kalopsia. The product shots were photographed by Susan Castillo, based in Glasgow. It's really important to me that my products are created by British crafters, supporting the creative sector in the UK.
